Running a marathon vs. family pictures
Two and a half years ago I started running. I had done an occasional 5k and I would run on the treadmill before a workout but I never really had any goals while running until my husband and I got this crazy idea to do a Tough Mudder. We knew that the running alone could be between 10-12 miles in addition to the insane obstacles. I began training. I signed up for local fundrasing races and set goals along the way. At first running was a daunting task. It was something I felt like I had to do but I didn’t enjoy it.
Then I started trail running on my favorite hiking trails. It was like hiking but even better because I could go faster and hit more peaks. The uphill was challenging but I would push myself one step at a time until I got to the top and could look down from a peak and see my progress. It was rewarding and it made running something that I now LOVE to do.
Sometimes I still have to pull myself out of bed early in the morning before it gets too hot and force myself to run. It’s easy to think of a million excuses why I should stay in bed. Sometimes the bed wins and I regret my poor decision all day long. When the bed loses and I put on my running shoes I feel amazing.
What on earth does this have to do with family pictures?
Sometimes getting ready for family pictures can feel as daunting as running a marathon. Usually one or more people in your family will resist the thought of family pictures. Putting together outfits is stressful. Getting everyone looking their best feels impossible. Much like running the end result is amazing but the journey is exhausting.
Why don’t we just throw in the towel and give up? REGRET…We hate living with regret. I’ve never met anyone that wasn’t thrilled to have pictures of their families but all to often I run into people who regret not having spent money on a professional wedding photographer, or missing out on the opportunity to have newborn pictures. These are moments you can’t get back.
Of course with family pictures you can always count on “next year”… until there isn’t a next year. Your kids will grow up. Teeth, braces and goofy smiles will come and go and those fleeting moments will be gone leaving you with more REGRET.
What if I told you there is an easier way?
When I discovered trail running I learned to enjoy the journey. When you find a photographer who is the right fit for you the process of family pictures will go from daunting to exciting. Find a photographer who fits your style. Make sure you are drawn to their images and love what they create. Then learn about the journey.
With me scheduling a family session is like having your own personal running coach. Someone who will help you every step of the way from the first inquiry to the beautiful album that will be treasured for generations. I start with tips to prepare your kids and get your spouse excited and guidelines for styling your family and figuring out what to wear. We find a location that is perfect for your family. I come prepared with everything necessary to deal with a grumpy husband, enthusiastic 5 year old and a hungry toddler. And believe it or not we will have fun. We will play games, laugh and before you know it we will be admiring your photographs and designing a beautiful display for your walls.
“I loved how Charlsie made the photo shoot about us. She worked with our limited days available, showed us examples of each location so we could pick what was best for us. My husband wasn’t excited taking our family pictures, but once we were there, she made it fun for our whole family, in spite of some seriously wild wind.” -Amy
